CCAC President's Message
Patrice Olds, MMC

First and foremost, on behalf of the
entire CCAC Board of Directors, our heart goes out to everyone affected
by the wildfires across the state and to those clerks whose communities
are affected. Please reach out to anyone on the board if we can support
you in any way. This has definitely been a year for all of us, but I
know we have the strength to pull through. We are stronger together, so let's make sure we support each other where we can.
Election filing season is closed. Now
let the sign wars begin and challenges to ballot designations! As
Clerks, we managed to make remote filing and socially distancing work
through the nomination period. I saw many opportunities through ListServ
and networking meetings where good ideas were shared and borrowed. One
of our professional strengths has been being able to learn from each
other and share our own experiences and best practices – and in this
pandemic, that has surely continued.
As you’ve seen from ListServ, CCAC
will not have an election this year as there weren’t more nominations
than seats available, so per our bylaws the candidates are appointed
directly. This action will take place at incoming President Anthony
Mejia's goal setting on October 9. I am so excited to see all the new
names and the high energy of those becoming involved in the association
who will take us to the next level. I am truly excited for this incoming
leadership and what fine stewardship the entire board brings to our
members.
Please keep your eyes open for a
membership survey coming your way in the next few weeks. We are
continuing on with our Strategic Plan and the first important milestone
in this effort was to build a baseline of data that we can measure on a
recurring basis to better see trends and improve the board’s decision
making with regard to our three key goal areas: Governance, Branding and
Communication, and Education. You’ll also have an opportunity in the
survey to provide comments in each of these key areas. We ask that you
take the time to fill this out and give us your candid thoughts so we
can find out how we are doing, and what we need to be doing better.
Thank you.
In San Mateo, it is annual performance
review season; always a time for introspection and examination of
goals, vision, work program achievements and misses, and reflection on
our own management skills and leadership attributes. During the
pandemic, with remote work, less connection to staff, fewer available
staffing resources, shrinking budgets, and hiring freezes – we are, as
always, being adaptable and innovative and doing everything possible to
stay positive and lift-up those around us. Holding ourselves accountable
while practicing kindness in forgiving those projects we just couldn’t
get to when our world changed – is a gift I hope you can give yourself
and to those around you. There are many more things I wanted to get to
this year, and it just wasn’t possible. I find I have just one more
article for you before I hand over the reigns to Anthony. And I am doing
that with a deep sense of gratitude for how we have pulled together to
continue to deliver clerk services and support each other in a world
that seemed to be changing daily. We are all ‘the man in the arena’ and
better for it.

Patrice

NEW MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL PERIOD IS HERE!
Marc Donohue, MMC (Membership Services Director)
The new annual membership renewal
period is now here. Now that the 6-month renewal period from January 1,
2020 through June 30, 2020 is over, we will now begin our normal
12-month annual membership renewal period from July 1st through June 30th.
This change was made to allow for membership dues to be collected on a
fiscal year basis going forward, resulting in accurate reporting.
Membership dues will be due on September 30, 2020. Memberships not renewed by September 30th
will be considered lapsed memberships and you will not be eligible for
scholarships or member-rates for the annual conference and educational
sessions.
Everyone should have received a
membership renewal email from CCAC on or around June 15, 2020, for the
annual 12-month membership renewal. Due to a glitch in our membership
database, the incorrect invoice was attached to your membership renewal
email. Please ignore the attached notice that you received. To receive
your correct invoice, please login to your CCAC account to retrieve the
correct invoice for your membership dues.
If you are having issues generating your invoice from your CCAC account, please email membership@californiacityclerks.org and we can generate the invoice and email it to you.
On behalf of the entire CCAC Executive
Board, we thank you for being a member and renewing your membership! If
you have any questions about this new membership renewal process,
please contact Membership Services.
